Minimising Harmful Substances

What is Considered Harmful?

Something that has a negative effect on your wellbeing could be considered harmful.  Some substances or behaviours may be obviously harmful. Such as taking illegal drugs or smoking.

Other things might not be as obvious. Especially if they are considered acceptable in moderation. Such as alcohol or social media.

Even things which would generally be deemed healthy can become harmful sometimes. Such as exercising to excess.

Some signs that a substance or behaviour is harming you might be:

·         You feel anxious or irritable if you are unable to have/do it

·         You spend more time than you would like to thinking about or engaging in it

·         You are spending more money than you can afford on it

·         Doing it only makes you feel good for short time, then you feel worse again

·         You have tried to cut down or stop but are struggling to

·         Other people are worried about the effect it is having on you
