Emotional Health
What is Emotional Health?
Emotional health is about how we think and feel. It is about our sense of wellbeing. Our ability to cope with life events and how we acknowledge our own emotions as well as those of others. It doesn’t mean being happy all of the time.
We often face challenges in life. Being 'emotionally healthy' means we are able to face these challenges more readily. We will then bounce back from negative feelings faster. This is also known as resilience.
Why Is It Important?
We all know that we need to take the time to look after our own emotional health. This can range from participating in a hobby you enjoy or meditation or sports. Yet, most of us feel that we do not have the time.
Taking care of your emotional health provides resilience when you encounter stressful situations. Some tips to help build resilience and good emotional health:
- Take some time for yourself each day. Do something you enjoy, even if you can only manage a short time each day.
- Notice the good moments. At the end of each day list at least three good things that happened.
- Practice gratitude. At the start of each day take a moment to think about something you are grateful for.
