Having a 'Pharmacy Team' in our surgery means that GPs can focus their skills where they are most needed, for example on diagnosing and treating patients with more complex conditions. This helps GPs to manage the demands on their time.
A Clinical Pharmacist is a qualified expert in medicines and can help people in a range of ways. This includes carrying out structured medication reviews for patients with ongoing health problems and improving patient safety.
A Clinical Pharmacist has an extra qualification as an 'Independent Prescriber.' This means they can prescribe in their own right. Usually with a specialism in long term conditions such as heart failure, hypertension, asthma COPD and diabetes.
A Prescribing Clerk deals with prescription enquiries and the processing of repeat prescriptions.
A pharmacy technician prepares repeat prescriptions, helps with medication reviews and queries.
They also undertake prescribing audits to help patients get the best outcomes from taking their medicines.
